The radical U.S. preacher Terry Jones did it the end of March, He had burned Korans. This leads to bloody attacks in Afghanistan.
The controversial pastor Terry Jones announced in the fall of last year in the anniversary of the 11th September 2001 he wanted Korans burned publicly. This caused worldwide indignation, and so Jones had to cancel the evil event.
But on 20th March he did it in Gainesville in the state of Florida. Around 30 people were present when in a church, a copy of the Koran covered with kerosene and set on fire. None was interested in the Koran burning besides a few rubbernecks.
UN staff beheaded
The reactions in the Islamic world to the action of the U.S. preacher Terry Jones/Islam-Hater are much more violent then expected.
Quickly after the Koran burning a violent demonstration broke out in Afghanistan for acts that have a direct connection with the action of Terry Jons. In Mazar-i-Sharif, an angry mob attacked the office of the UN. Thus eleven UN staff were killed. The protesters proceeded extremely brutal. Two UN staff were apparently beheaded. Among the dead is a Norwegian, a Swede and a Romanian. Nine others were killed in further clashes in Kandahar, southern Afghanistan. 20 people lost there live for the action of preacher Terry Jone so far.
A shooter needs to be sent to Florida to do the job “
Afghan President Hamid Karzai last weekend also poured oil on the fire. In a speech he asked the U.S. Congress to apologize for burning Koran, also would have the U.S. evil preacher to be arrested. Even in Pakistan there are protests. One opposition leader called for the state parliament of the province of Punjab, one would send a gunman to Florida to do the job.
In Pakistan and in Afghanistan, the demonstrations will continue in the context of the Koran burning. Preacher Jones said to this, he did not feel responsible for the dead. His community was saddened by the death of UN staff, but that does not alter what we do in the community. “We have just burned a book and not called for violence.”
An inhumane conflict
“New York Times” describes the current conflict as inhumane. Those who provoke and the ones which can be provoked. Most aptly summed up the tragedy President Barack Obama: The desecration of a sacred text the Koran , is an act of extreme intolerance. Likewise, it is shameful in response to kill innocent people.
